Drake in a Paul Betenly suit!

by reggie in Press on August 26th, 2010 Discussion

Melissa C. stumbled upon this photo of Toronto’s it-guy Drake in a suit from Gotstyle!

A few weeks ago we had mentioned on Twitter that Drake’s stylist had come by to pick out some clothes for his latest video. It looks like a lot of people were really feeling his new look in one of our new additions to the Gotstyle suit collection, Paul Betenly! (c/o MediaTakeOut)

And while we’re on the topic of styling, Channing Tatum’s stylists were in the store today picking out suits for his new movie, The Vow!

Melissa in Canadian Business Magazine: Staying fresh in a heat wave

by reggie in Press on August 24th, 2010 Discussion

In case you missed the latest issue of Canadian Business Magazine, Melissa was asked what to do when the boardroom sweats start to become a problem:

“There’s nothing worse than going for lunch and getting to your afternoon meeting with big pit stains under your arms,” says Melissa Austria, founder of Toronto-based menswear clothing store Gotstyle. “That’s all people can look at.”

If you’re a business person or, more specifically, a businessman without the option of wearing a skirt and sandals, this may be the year to rethink your summer wardrobe. Austria says the undershirt is a good place to start. Ditch the cotton for bamboo fabric, she says. It keeps moisture away from the body instead of trapping it.

Short-sleeved dress shirts are acceptable in most workplaces, Austria says, but they should be worn tucked in, have a tailored fit, and be in basic colours such as blue or white to avoid looking like something you’d wear to a Saturday night BBQ. To make this look even more formal, buy a shirt with a nice cuff detail on the arm, or pair it with a tie for that “geek chic” look.

Gotstyle in the latest Report on Business Magazine

by reggie in Press on July 6th, 2010 Discussion

Melissa and Gotstyle were featured in the July/August 2010 issue of the Globe & Mail’s Report on Business Magazine:

At Toronto’s Gotstyle boutique, Melissa Austria tells her customers to use the handy 1-to-3 ratio: one casual piece to two parts formal. Ground your casual shoes with a smart navy blazer and tie.

Fashionights: Gotstyle Fashion Face-Off
Last night, Ultra’s rooftop patio played host to GOTSTYLE’s Fashion Faceoff.

The night was filled with sharply dressed men, most of them anyways, and the lovely ladies had the privilage to hand out gold stars to the hottest ones…a great excuse to flirt and hey I even was called out a “pretty boy” by one of the straight men who protested that I had his star! Flirting, back with what I do best I merely stated that she saw me first.

Courtney Corner: GOTSTYLE x Katwalk
Last night GOTSTYLE hosted the most handsome party Toronto may ever see. Every sartorial man in Toronto came out in hopes of getting some gold stars from the girls. Although some of my friends weren’t able to make it in due to door issues, it was a great way to begin our National Holiday. Enjoy the Elmer Olsen models after the break ;)

Hockey Butt Pants and Dion Phaneuf

by Melissa in Press on June 16th, 2010 Discussion

We did a photo shoot with the new Leaf’s captain a few months ago for The Fourth Period magazine and I have to say he does have the biggest butt I’ve ever seen on a hockey player!

After I gave it a squeeze (he laughed!), I got him to try on a pair of pants we are calling, “the hockey butt pants”. They are cut fuller in the seat and the thigh, but with a trimmer waist, and they fit him! So if you’ve been having problems finding a dress pant that will fit your butt / thighs and still be a fashionable cut, try this one on! Retails for $295.

We also dressed Colton Orr, Alexei Ponikarovsky and Thomas Kaberle for the magazine as well!
