Extreme Couch Surfing Clothes

by Melissa in New Arrivals on January 25th, 2012 Discussion

Superbowl is around the corner, it’s prime hockey season, and basketball is back. You know what that means: it’s time to bunker down for some serious couch time.

Even if you’re at your sloth best, you don’t have to look like a total slob. Couchwear that looks good has its advantages: your other half won’t nag you as much and you’ll look decent for surprise ex-drop-ins or run-ins with the hottie neighbour during a chip run.

My favourite, Gypsy 05 (above) was launched by a brother and sister team. They use super soft and airy fabrics, exclusive dye techniques, all made in a solar powered LA studio. Reversible knit lounge pants and hoodies are perfect for couch surfing and way better than this (see eye-sore on the right):

Other great couch surfing ideas:

  • Ted Baker cozy fleece zip up in navy, $250
  • Oats cashmere hoodie in charcoal and blue, $295 (perfect for cuddling on the couch as well either by yourself or with someone else!)
  • John Varvatos knit hoodie in black, $298

Trend Watch: Spring 2012 Trends

by Melissa in Trend Watch on January 24th, 2012 Discussion

So far it’s been the best winter ever: it’s now the end of January and it’s going to be plus 8 tomorrow. Spring is coming!

Spring trends – as I mentioned on my CTV news appearance (sorry, shameless plug) – we are not just about fashion, we’re about style. Here are some of my buying pictures of what’s coming in for Spring and what all the stylish men (and those who need it) will be wearing:

1. Casual, cotton, already wrinkled, throw on blazers: Here LAB and Horst blazers

2. Adding pops of color to normally neutral pieces like outerwear and shoes: Farah parka and Moods of Norway shoes.

3. Solid or micro print shirts for going out; looks fresh after seasons of the “going out shirt” (aka Robert Graham).
Johnny Love solid shirt and Ted Baker micro print shirt.

4. Lightweight sweater knits (v-neck, crews and henleys) give you the comfort of a t-shirt with a sexy cute appeal (especially when worn under a blazer or over a shirt). Line Collection cotton/cashmere henley and Psycho Bunny striped collegiate sweater.

5. Brighter and bolder colors in check dress shirts for work, look good when paired with a solid knit tie. Strellson and Strensoms dress shirts.

6. Plaid suits and blazers, go from subtle (like a shadow plaid) to bold, gets you noticed in a good way! Circle of Gentleman plaid blazer, Tiger of Sweden check suit and Without Prejudice suit with taping detail.

Celeb Style: Drake

by Courtney in Celeb Style on January 23rd, 2012 Discussion

Canadians don’t get a global reputation for being the most stylish people. But for young, urban, aspirational guys in North America, Canadian rapper Drake is one of the most stylish celebrities.

It’s all in the details for Drake. His casual style includes Tom Ford Baccarat sunglasses, and his event outfits have included velvet loafers with tassels.

Recently, we’ve seen him take more risks with fashion, like the blue silk tuxedo jacket pictured below. He’s put the days of baggy jeans and sweaters behind him (for the most part) and has grown into a cleaner, more mature look.

To get Drake’s style, the key is to invest in quality pieces and look for things with a twist. Whether it’s asymmetrical zippers and details on jackets, jeans with a more tapered fit, or unique textures. Drake loves high price designer items, but you don’t have to break the bank. Many mid-range designers have amazing and unique accessories that will easily give you look an urban edge.

When you’ve got the basic leather jacket, jeans, henleys, preppy sweaters and sneakers in your wardrobe, start looking for varsity bomber jackets, sunglasses, and of course, sweaters.

Having a lot of casual wear is key. We only ever see Drake really formal for red carpet or big events, so his casual wear often goes into the night.

Horizontal stripes are preppy and can dress up a casual outfit. Like many of his heartfelt songs he often goes against the grain of other rappers. Make the preppy look younger by including jeans and sneakers.
