We’re looking for a barber to work in our shop opening soon near Wellington & Bathurst. Its a SHARPS Barber and Shop, so the barber has to have soul. If you can do a mean straight-blade shave, that’s a real asset, clipper work essential.

We have barbershops in other places around the world, so we know what makes a great barber, and what’s going to make this shop a real success. There’s nothing really like it in TO at the moment, so maybe this is the job you’ve been looking for.

1. Spraying in the air and walking through it doesn’t work. 90% of the spray ends up on the floor.
2. When spraying the cologne on your wrists, apply it half an inch away. Maybe even remove the nozzle and dab with your middle finger.
3. You aren’t just restricted to your wrists and neck. Try it on your shoulders or forearms of your suit jacket. Moving your arms will extend your scent further from your base.



4. Never put your scent where her tongue could land. You know how rancid that stuff tastes like?
5. A cologne bottle is not a shower-on-the-go. Don’t be that guy in the subway.
6. Swapping colognes for the season is about as optional as alternating watches based on the time of day. You want people to remember you by your scent. No need to complicate things for them.
7. You may respray your cologne throughout the course of the day, depending on how long it lasts on you. Upping your dose is fully dependent on the type of cologne and how your skin reacts with it. Just remember to start minimal, then increase.
8. Cheap deodorant can kill the vibe. Look for neutral rather than the locker room smell. Besides, who pairs cheap pit stick with a Dolce & Gabbana cologne anyway?
9. Aftershave is a thing of the past. It’s not good for your skin. Don’t bother unless you really enjoy the burning sensation.
10. Pulse points are as much as sham as the spray-n-walk. If you don’t know what that is, keep it that way.

Literature for Life announces the all-star line-up for the second annual POETIC FASHION to be held 7pm on September 2, 2010 at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts.

Juno Award Nominee Kim Davis and Raptors TV Showtime Host Akil Augustine host a showcase of some of Toronto’s best up and coming designers – including Rod Philipot of Shkank, Gregory Allen, and Sodaliscious.

Poetic Fashion also showcases some of Toronto’s best talent including Canadian Beatbox Champion Scott Jackson, composer and pianist JD Keys and Apollo Amateur Night Winner Blake Carrington alongside a host of established and up and coming spoken word artists from Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods.

Poetic Fashion is a model youth leadership initiative – run by youth for youth – and committed to building bridges not barriers between Toronto’s at-risk communities, finding commonalities, not differences.

The episode also includes the process of consultation, haircut, and facial grooming with a model, along with tips on how to also stylize the groomsmen.

Our good friend Masai Ujiri, previously the Director of Scouting for the Toronto Raptors, stopped into the store this afternoon to say his goodbyes. He leaves this weekend for Denver to take on his new role as General Manager for the Nuggets!

Masai is not only the first employee of the Toronto Raptors to be promoted to a higher position to another team, he’s also the first foreign born GM in the NBA.

It may be important to note that Masai wore a Made to Measure suit from Gotstyle to his interview. Like our haircuts, our clothes are your lucky charm too!

1. Does it have high armholes?
2. Does the sleeve length hit the heel of your hand?
3. Does the shirt blouse over your waist when tucked? Not only should it not blouse over, but you should be tucking them in anyways.

Business Casual Style Tips for the Modern Man:

• Lose the crewneck undershirts. If the sweat is getting out of control, at least wear a v-neck. Compare it to professional basketball players who wear oversized t-shirts under their jerseys. Just don’t.
• Square toed shoes need to go. Typically if you don’t want your pants wide, why would you want your shoes to be too? Slim it up.
• No need to showcase whether you’re a Blackberry or an iPhone fan boy – keep it off the belt and into your pocket.
• Pleated is debatable in the fashion world, however pleated + baggy makes you flabby and outdated.
• Tailor your jackets, it works wonders for showcasing your body. Navy is a must.
• Slim cut both your shirts and your pants, your silhouette will look much leaner.
• Looking to mix things up? Toss a sweater over top your shirt this fall. Just make sure it’s not grandma sized and v-necked.
• Even better, go for a cardigan. It’s true – worn incorrectly can make you look older than you are, so make sure the armholes are high. Go with grey, it goes with everything.

A few weeks ago we had mentioned on Twitter that Drake’s stylist had come by to pick out some clothes for his latest video. It looks like a lot of people were really feeling his new look in one of our new additions to the Gotstyle suit collection, Paul Betenly! (c/o MediaTakeOut)

And while we’re on the topic of styling, Channing Tatum’s stylists were in the store today picking out suits for his new movie, The Vow!

“There’s nothing worse than going for lunch and getting to your afternoon meeting with big pit stains under your arms,” says Melissa Austria, founder of Toronto-based menswear clothing store Gotstyle. “That’s all people can look at.”

Short-sleeved dress shirts are acceptable in most workplaces, Austria says, but they should be worn tucked in, have a tailored fit, and be in basic colours such as blue or white to avoid looking like something you’d wear to a Saturday night BBQ. To make this look even more formal, buy a shirt with a nice cuff detail on the arm, or pair it with a tie for that “geek chic” look.
