Over the years we’ve quite possibly dressed every single “type” of man you could imagine from pro-athletes, to regular stay at home dads. In response to our ever growing client base we’ve worked hard to stock our stores with the right products and cuts to meet their diverse individual needs. This video featuring Founder, Melissa talks about the various body archetypes we commonly find in our stores and the brands best suited for those individuals. So whether you’re super slim or work out a lot you’ll definitely find a shirt that is right for you.
We at Gotstyle are less concerned with “namesake” brands and more inclined to bringing fashion brands that truly cater to our customers. As such, we try to focus on those labels that provide value and quality at a great price point.
Last year when Melissa was globe trotting buying for our Spring/Summer 2013 season she immediately fell in love several Scandinavian, Dutch and German brands, why you ask? Because brands like Johnny Love, Vito, Blue Industry, Stones, Van Gils, and Circle of Gentlemen, seamlessly bring all the elements together. They all offer a great modern fit, they are on trend and ultimately, give you the best bang for your buck! Dont believe us, drop by our Distillery District store and check these brands out for yourself. And while you’re there, have a game of pool on us!
#AskGotstyle is a great new series where our fans & customers get to directly ask us any questions regarding men’s fashion and style. Just tweet us your style questions using #AskGotstyle and one of your stylists will be happy to answer them for you.
This video covers the age old question of “What shirt collar should I buy?” which was sent to us by @clickflickca and @beachrockinc via twitter. To answer this question we turned to our Bathurst St store Manager Daria who eloquently explains the different types of shirt collar styles available to men and which ones give you the best bang for your buck!
For those of you that visit our Bathurst st location often you may have already met him, for those that don’t we strongly recommend you drop by and say hi to our new Made-to-Measure expert Konstantine.
1) How long have you been working in this industry, specifically suiting?
I have been in the industry for 24 years, starting as a custom tailor and designer, later shifting my interest into mass production and subsequently re-focusing my efforts on made-to-measure and bespoke services.
2) What encouraged you to get into this industry?
Growing up, I was quite the electronically inclined kid. My hobbies were computers and radio. However, I came from a line of old-school tailors, and always liked to dress well. My grandmother was my strongest influence, as she was the one who taught me how to sew. She was an incredible designer and seamstress with amazing eye for detail. She was my first mentor and always had a comment or two about my skills.
3) Who are your style icons?
Way too many to list! I love both British and Italian tailored goods because of the level of sophistication they offer. At the same time, my icons would be designers or tailors themselves, rather their clients. Armani is ageless and a class act who is always followed by many accomplished and young designers. At the same time, fashion would not be where it is today without the late Gianni Versace and his incredible art. Today, perhaps I’m fascinated by Angelo Galasso who’s been called the Leonardo Davinci of shirts.
4) What is so great about a suit?
Suit makes a gentlemen, out of mere men. It is a status, sex-appeal and image. No other piece of clothing (providing it fits properly) makes a man look serious, successful and “hot” at the same time. When a gentlemen wears a properly chosen suit, he projects confidence, fashion sense and sophistication.
5) What are some of the most commonly asked questions from your clients?
Majority of clients always like to know the process involved in creating a Made to Measure suit and how it’s different from full bespoke. I also get a lot of questions about construction/fit of various garments and the quality of fabric they use.
6) What can people expect when they come to you to get fitted for a suit?
My goal is to empower my clients with the knowledge and advise, necessary to make the whole MTM process easy and enjoyable. I want them to look great in their suits and to receive a ton of compliments. After all, there is no greater reward than continuos business from happy client.
Whether you’re going in a blazer, vest, or carte blanche, the mighty shirt is what will set the tone for your outfit. This spring, learn how to choose the perfect solid and colourful check shirts, and pull off the Ryan Gosling white collar/striped shirt look without looking like a generic banker on Wall Street.
Melissa and the Gotstyle Grooms were invited to Breakfast Television for an exclusive mini-fashion show featuring a preview of Gotstyle’s upcoming Groom Room. Go behind the scenes in our latest video.
