Celeb Style: Kayne West

by Courtney in Celeb Style on December 31st, 2011 Discussion

Is there any guy who does modern American fashion as well as Kanye West?

Last week, we saw Sergio Pizzorno use style to express his creativity. This week, Kanye uses style to express his attitude by wearing fur, leather, bright colours, and stand-out trends to garner attention and show his confidence.

If nothing, every man can learn one important lesson from Kayne: fusion. Mix trendy leather pants with a classic fur coat. And why can’t you wear tuxedo jackets with high tops? Kanye does a great job of combining urban youthful pieces with luxury. The result is youthful, cool, and confident.

Ease into a Kanye-inspired look with some edgy eyewear like these Michael Kors eyeglasses.

In his own words, he says to “dress like you’re coming from somewhere, and you’ve got some place to go.” So tonight, when you’re getting ready for New Year’s Eve, keep this in mind.

His keen personal style has led him to a shoe collaboration with Louis Vuitton, eyewear collection with Ksubi, and an accessory collaboration with M/M Paris.

Dressing like ‘Nye requires confidence and self-assuredness. If you’ve got those, then all you need to do is dress with fusion and attitude.

For formal events, he generally keeps it traditional with a Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo and bow tie. Of course, the gold safety pin adds a touch of attitude and quirkiness to the look.

Celeb Style: Sergio Pizzorno

by Courtney in Celeb Style on December 27th, 2011 Discussion

British guitarist and songwriter Sergio Pizzorno lets his creativity out through both music and fashion.

If you’re a creative type, this is a great way to show it. If you don’t have a formal dress code at work (or you work for yourself as an artist), and your social events give you the freedom to go beyond suits, having a wardrobe full of unique pieces and visual interest will convey your creativity.

To get Sergio’s look, mix basics with bright colours, patterns, and eclectic finds. Stocking up on scarves is key, too. Also notice how he chooses to use one or two (maximum) pieces as the centrepiece, keeping the rest solid and simple. Combining too many eclectic pieces looks messy, not creative.

Because this is such an eclectic look, keeping the fit slim will ensure that it’s you wearing the clothes and not the clothes wearing you. To balance out the patterns, colours, and textures he plays with on top, he always keeps his pants simple with skinny black pants or jeans.

He definitely stands out from fellow musicians in a light neutral jacket with green scarf. I love seeing guys wear light colours!

Last Minute Christmas Ideas (for the Guys!)

by Melissa in General on December 21st, 2011 Discussion

It’s December 21st – just the time for guys to go into panic mode about Christmas presents!

Here are some great last minute ideas from a females perspective:

1. You can never go wrong with shoes, but think sexy not comfort (no woman wants to be given comfortable shoes).

2. Love of Mine Boutique on Queen St is my go-to to buy amazing jewelry for women. Doesn’t break the bank, but looks like you spend time trying to find her something special! Also check out Elle Hardware on Queen.

3. Quality time is what most women want from their guy, so do a special night in package:
• Get some popcorn, high-end hot chocolate, two mugs and her favorite chick flick movie in a gift basket for a movie night in.
• Bubble bath, scented candle, massage oil and a bottle of champagne wrapped with a fuzzy towel or cozy robe.

4. Date night out:
• Plan a date around the city: buy her a scarf and go skating at the Harbourfront. Buy her a book by her favorite painter and have an afternoon and lunch at the AGO. Or buy her a BLO certificate to get her hair done, then dinner out.
• Plan different activities around certain neighbourhoods in the city that you never go to (I never leaved the King/Queen West hood). Yorkville: Drinks at Panorama, VIP movie at the Bloor Cinema then dinner at Caren’s Wine and Cheese bar. East-end: Visit St. Lawrence Market, then cook what you bought.

Do you have any tips for the guys in panic mode this week?
