Melissa’s Rant: Prom at the ROM-servations

by Melissa in General on March 31st, 2010 Discussion

Went to Prom at the ROM event this weekend, it’s a charity fundraiser put on the by the Young Patrons’ Circle (YPC).

Have to say that the women of Toronto know how to bring their “A” game out to an event, tons of great outfits and styling.

Three piece suit from Cinque, $595

As for the men… all I have to say is that for an evening dress up event, wearing your regular business suit or your boxy tuxedo just doesn’t cut it anymore. The guys that were well dressed were all wearing clean, trim 2 button suits with a crisp white shirt, dark slim tie and a white pocket square. Trust me this look never gets tired on a guy.

If you do have to attend events in the city please invest in a black “going out” suit – you can wear it with the aforementioned white shirt or with a v-neck t-shirt and a pair of running shoes. We have some hot ones by Cinque (see right) and LAB

An evening jacket is also a nice alternative will also work well with dress pants or a slim fit chino. Look for SAND or POP (see below).

As a side note – it was kind of a shame that there were so many great people at the event ready to dance but we were subjected to bad music. Stop it with the top 40 music, we’re from the dance generation!

Preview of Dion Phaneuf in Gotstyle clothes

by reggie in General on March 29th, 2010 Discussion

Last week, Melissa dropped by Fourth Period Magazine‘s photoshoot of Dion Phaneuf (the “it” guy for the Toronto Maple Leafs & boyfriend to Elisha Cuthbert, drool) and other Leafs players. Each player was styled in clothes from Gotstyle for the upcoming issue, due out in a few weeks. Above is a shot from the photoshoot – more photos to come after publication.

See, we got stuff for guys with hockey butts!

Stylist Picks for March

by reggie in Stuff We Like on March 28th, 2010 Discussion

Christine - Sand dress shirt, $225

The best thing about this choice is that SAND has so many great colours & styles to choose from. Christine chose this shirt based on its spring-safe colours & checkered pattern. Able to be worn during the day and into the night, the wow factor starts with the detailing – just look inside the collar & cuffs.

Michael - SAND tuxedo jacket, $595

“You will stand out.”

That’s exactly what Michael said about this SAND jacket with authority. This traditional yet modernized tuxedo jacket takes you from baby steps to man strides. Michael (who is also sporting an amazing Pal Zileri suit) favours this piece for its versatility – it can be paired with a variety of shirt styles, denims, or structured dress pants.

Veronica - Cold Method jacket, $375

Although white can be harder to maintain, Veronica’s selection for our new label, Cold Method is a great choice for anyone looking for an exceptional piece that will match with almost anything (including practically any colour). It’s light weight (made with both cotton and linen) for those warm or breezy days and is well tailored with a formal finish. Veronica is big on transition pieces, and this jacket is no exception – wear this from brunch until later in the PM for drinks on the patio.

More on Cold Method next week when we highlight their complete collection that just arrived.

Neale - Bunker shoes, $175

A remedy for any summer footwear confusion, these suede loafers are perfect for casual or dressy outfits on warm summer days and into those sexy summer evenings (yet another transition item!). The lining is very comfortable and can be worn with or without socks, and may be coupled with jeans, shorts, suits. The possibilities are endless. Plus they come in three colours: red, blue, or beige.

Reggie - Bustle, $450

This is more of a blogger’s pick (I’m not much of a stylist – I can dress myself but that’s about it), but it’s hard not to notice things I want to blow my pay checks on. The Bustle jacket features a peak lapel, the cotton chintz provides the shiny texture, and the inner liner is littered with their quirky, trademark bird designs. It needs almost no tailoring for a slim guy like myself.

Looking forward to seeing what Bustle has in store for us this fall at their fashion show this Thursday!

a la mode Trendology: Gotstyle with Ted Baker & more

by reggie in New Arrivals on March 27th, 2010 Discussion

Marcus from the a la mode blog (@fusionofeffects) stopped in a few weeks ago to do a shoot with us on our new Ted Baker spring arrivals. We were first requested to do a shoot almost seconds after our announcement on Twitter, which has proven time and time again to be an excellent way to reach out to other blog writers, men’s style enthusiasts, and our customers.

Alternatively you can read our original post on the Ted Baker shirts here.

We also put Adam, a la mode‘s model for the day, in a Tombolini suit – he didn’t want to take it off after being showered with compliments! We eventually got him out of it and used the photo for our segment in this week’s NOW Magazine (see right).

Thanks again to Marcus and a la mode for featuring us on your blog!

We’re active on Twitter, so send us your vibes about our store, site content, well wishes, or whatever else you want to tweet us!

We’re back!

by reggie in General on March 26th, 2010 Discussion

After being offline for what seemed like eternity, we’ve made our way back with a new look for 2010.

Our blog went down back in February due to an unforeseen crash from our last newsletter. Apparently a massive wave of hits, coupled with a few wonky WordPress plugins, can cause catastrophic results. The unfortunate conclusion was not only a corrupted hard drive, but also the loss of over a years worth of posts.

Pixelcarve has done a marvelous job redesigning our new blog and we’ve done a lot of research to figure out what to keep and what to junk. In the end, less is always better, and we’d like to thank them for all of their hard work to get us back online.

We’d also like to send out a special thanks to our Facebook fans and Twitter followers (tweeples) for keeping up with us this past month! We’re almost at 1000 Facebook fans, so suggest us to your stylish (and not so stylish) friends!

We’ll continue to post fresh new content daily (as well as older content that had been backed up from the crash) so our 500 visitors each day and 10,000 new visitors each month will look better than ever.

It’s good to be home!
